Art & sources
Receipts before rectangles.
Every work begins with an individual rights record and an official source image.
- 01
Find the individual record.
A search result, age estimate, or database-wide label is not enough. The work’s own object page must visibly show Public Domain or qualifying commercially usable Open Access status.
- 02
Preserve the evidence.
We record artist or maker, title, date, medium, object number, source institution, object page, direct image source, access date, rights statement, original dimensions, and checksum.
- 03
Use the official original.
Production starts from the source institution’s official Open Access image, not a screenshot, search thumbnail, store image, exhibition photograph, or publication scan.
- 04
Match the surface.
Rights clearance does not make every image suitable for every object. Resolution, crop, fine detail, handle zones, garment color, and viewing distance all matter.
- 05
Make only what works.
Each artwork is offered only on products that preserve what makes the image worth choosing.
Attribution is provenance, not a partnership.
Product records will identify the artist or maker, title, date, source institution, and object page. No museum logo, store asset, curatorial essay, trademark, or claim of affiliation is part of the design.
